These easy crispy baked cinnamon apple chips are a healthy, guilt-free snack made with just apples, cinnamon, and optional sugar. Perfect for entertaining, lunchboxes, or a quick treat, they turn out perfectly crunchy every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 large apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, or Granny Smith)
  • 12 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 12 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. Wash apples thoroughly. Core and slice very thin, about 1/8 inch thick. A mandoline slicer is recommended for even slices.
  3. If using lemon juice, gently toss apple slices in a bowl with the juice to prevent browning.
  4. Arrange slices in a single layer on prepared baking sheets, ensuring they do not overlap.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and sugar (if using). Sprinkle mixture generously over apple slices.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes. Rotate pans and flip each slice over.
  7. Reduce oven temperature to 225°F (110°C). Bake for another 40-60 minutes, until edges curl and centers feel dry and papery.
  8. Cool completely on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes. Chips will crisp as they cool.
  9. Test for crispness: a chip should snap cleanly. If not, return to oven at 225°F for 10-15 minutes.

Notes

Slice thickness is crucial: aim for 1/8 inch. Do not crowd the pan to avoid steaming. Watch the last 10 minutes to prevent burning. Cool completely before storing to maintain crispness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Re-crisp in a 250°F oven for 5-10 minutes if needed.
