This cozy orange sherbet Halloween punch float is the kind of drink that makes you close your eyes after the first sip. It’s sweet, tangy, creamy, and fizzy all at once—like a party in a glass that somehow also feels like a hug.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 quart (about 4 cups) orange sherbet
  • 2 liters ginger ale
  • 1 cup orange juice, chilled
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • Orange food coloring (optional)
  • Black licorice strings (for garnish)
  • Candy eyeballs (for garnish)
  • Orange slices and maraschino cherries (for garnish)
  • Dry ice (optional, for adults only)

Instructions

  1. Chill your ingredients. About an hour before you plan to serve the punch, put the ginger ale and orange juice in the refrigerator.
  2. Soften the sherbet slightly. Take the orange sherbet out of the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Prepare your garnishes. Slice the oranges into thin rounds. Cut the black licorice strings into pieces about 6 inches long.
  4. Combine the liquids. In your punch bowl, pour the chilled ginger ale, orange juice, and lemon juice. Stir gently to combine. If using orange food coloring, add a drop or two now and stir.
  5. Scoop the sherbet. Using an ice cream scoop, make small to medium-sized balls of sherbet (about 8-10 scoops). Drop them gently into the liquid. Do not stir.
  6. Add the garnishes. Arrange orange slices and maraschino cherries on top of the sherbet scoops. Drape black licorice strings over the edge of the punch bowl. Drop candy eyeballs into the punch. If using dry ice, add a small piece with tongs.
  7. Serve immediately. Ladle the punch into cups, making sure each cup gets a scoop of melting sherbet and some fizzy liquid.

Notes

This punch is best served within 30 minutes of assembly. Do not make ahead. For a dairy-free version, use vegan orange sorbet. For a less sweet version, use diet ginger ale and sugar-free sorbet. For an adult version, replace half the ginger ale with prosecco or add vodka or rum.
