This creamy crockpot hot chocolate is the perfect Halloween party drink. Made with just four simple ingredients, it’s rich, velvety, and stays warm for hours—ideal for a crowd.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups whole milk (1.4 liters)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (240 ml)
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (340 grams)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Optional: Halloween sprinkles, mini marshmallows, whipped cream, candy eyeballs, crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Combine the liquids: Pour 6 cups whole milk and 1 cup heavy cream into the crockpot. Stir briefly.
  2. Add the chocolate chips: Pour 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips into the milk mixture. No need to stir.
  3. Add the vanilla: Drizzle in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
  4. Cook on low: Cover and cook on low for 2 hours. Do not lift the lid.
  5. Whisk until smooth: After 2 hours, whisk the mixture until smooth and fully combined.
  6. Adjust consistency (optional): If too thick, whisk in ¼ cup milk. If too thin, cook on low with lid off for 30 minutes.
  7. Switch to warm setting: Turn crockpot to ‘warm’ to keep hot chocolate at serving temperature for up to 4 hours.
  8. Serve and garnish: Ladle into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, sprinkles, or candy eyeballs.

Notes

Use room temperature dairy for faster heating. Do not lift the lid during cooking. For a spiked version, add ½ cup peppermint schnapps or Baileys after cooking. For dairy-free, use oat milk and coconut cream.
