A creamy, rich spinach and artichoke dip baked inside a hollowed sourdough bread bowl, perfect for cozy gatherings and easy entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 oz frozen spinach, thawed and drained
  • 14 oz canned artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 large round sourdough loaf (about 12 oz)

Instructions

  1. Thaw frozen spinach completely and squeeze out as much water as possible.
  2. Drain canned artichoke hearts well, then chop coarsely.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  4. Stir in mozzarella, Parmesan, spinach, and artichokes. Add crushed red pepper flakes if desired. Mix gently but thoroughly.
  5. Using a serrated knife, cut a circle about 2 inches from the top of the sourdough loaf. Remove the lid and hollow out the interior, leaving about 1-inch thick walls.
  6. Spoon the dip mixture into the hollowed bread bowl, packing it in slightly. Place the lid back on the bread bowl and set it on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 25-30 minutes, until the dip is bubbly and the top is golden.
  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Cut the bread lid into wedges for dipping and offer reserved bread chunks.

Notes

Drain spinach and artichokes thoroughly to avoid watery dip. Use room-temperature cream cheese for smooth mixing. Hollow bread bowl walls about 1 inch thick to prevent sogginess. Optionally sprinkle extra mozzarella on top before baking for a bubbly crust. For vegan version, substitute cream cheese, sour cream, and cheese with vegan alternatives. For low-carb, skip bread bowl and serve with veggies or low-carb crackers.
