Easy Cozy Spiced Apple Cider Margarita Recipe

spiced apple cider margarita - featured image

This isn’t your average margarita. It’s a seasonal showstopper that brings together the bright tang of lime, the warmth of spiced apple cider, and the smooth kick of tequila. It’s the feeling of a crisp autumn day in a glass, perfected after many tries to achieve the ideal balance of sweet, tart, and spice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz blanco tequila (e.g., Espolòn)
  • 3 oz fresh apple cider (unfiltered preferred)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice (about 1 medium lime)
  • 0.75 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or triple sec)
  • 0.5 oz pure maple syrup
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1 tiny pinch fine sea salt
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (turbinado or demerara)
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Lime wedge for rimming the glass
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 thin apple slice (honeycrisp or granny smith)
  • Optional: star anise for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the spiced rim mixture: In a small shallow dish, combine 1 tablespoon coarse sugar, 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg. Mix with your fingers until evenly combined. Set aside.
  2. Prep your glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of your rocks glass. Gently dip the rim into the spiced sugar mixture, rotating to coat evenly. Tap off any excess.
  3. Fill your glass with ice: Add a handful of ice cubes to the prepared glass. Set aside while you mix the drink.
  4. Combine liquid ingredients: In your cocktail shaker, add 2 oz blanco tequila, 3 oz fresh apple cider, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.75 oz orange liqueur, and 0.5 oz pure maple syrup.
  5. Add the secret spices: Sprinkle in 1 pinch of ground cinnamon and 1 tiny pinch of fine sea salt.
  6. Shake it like you mean it: Fill your shaker with ice (about ¾ full). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels frosty cold.
  7. Strain and pour: If your cider has pulp, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into your prepared glass. Otherwise, just pour it straight in over the ice.
  8. Garnish: Slide a thin apple slice into the glass. Add a cinnamon stick and a star anise if desired. The cinnamon stick doubles as a stirrer — stir gently to release its aroma.
  9. Taste and adjust: Take a small sip. Need more sweetness? Add a tiny drizzle of maple syrup. Too sweet? A squeeze of lime fixes it.

Notes

Don’t skip the pinch of salt in the mix—it balances the sweetness and acidity without tasting salty. Shake with authority for a full 15-20 seconds. Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor. Chill your glass in the freezer for 10 minutes before starting for a colder drink. For a party, batch the liquid ingredients (multiply by 8) and refrigerate for up to 4 hours; shake individual portions with ice when ready to serve. The spiced rim should be applied fresh to avoid sogginess.
