Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz / 170g each), skin-on or skinless
  • 1 bunch asparagus (about 1 lb / 450g), woody ends trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: lemon wedges for serving
  • 1/3 cup honey (about 110g)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional but recommended)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Take the salmon fillets out of the fridge and let them sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes if using. Set aside about 2 tablespoons of the glaze in a separate small dish for brushing on the cooked salmon at the end.
  3. Rinse the asparagus and pat it dry. Trim the woody ends by bending each stalk near the bottom until it snaps naturally, then cut the rest to match. Spread the asparagus on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss gently to coat. Push the asparagus to the sides of the pan, leaving the center clear.
  4. Place the salmon fillets in the center of the baking sheet, skin-side down if they have skin. Drizzle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Brush or spoon about half of the honey garlic glaze over the tops of the fillets, spreading it evenly.
  5. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven on the middle rack. Roast for 12 to 15 minutes, depending on the thickness of your salmon. The salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork and the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). The asparagus should be tender-crisp.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven. Immediately brush the reserved fresh glaze over the salmon fillets. Let the salmon rest on the pan for 2-3 minutes. Transfer the salmon and asparagus to plates or a serving platter. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over everything if using. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, don’t overcrowd the pan. Let salmon rest for 2-3 minutes after cooking. Double the glaze if you love extra sauce. For gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce. For a lower-sugar version, reduce honey to 2 tablespoons and add extra soy sauce and water.
