A festive and playful Halloween snack board featuring flaky puff pastry-wrapped mummy dogs and crispy tortilla chip witch hats with melted cheese, perfect for parties and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cocktail sausages or mini hot dogs
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed but still cold)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Black sesame seeds or small mustard dots (for the eyes)
  • Optional: A pinch of garlic powder or smoked paprika
  • 12 small tortilla chips (triangular shape preferred)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 12 black olives (sliced, for the hat bands)
  • 1/2 cup salsa or guacamole (for dipping)
  • Baby carrots and celery sticks
  • Assorted pickles or olives
  • Assorted nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut the pastry into thin strips about 1/4 inch (6 mm) wide, long enough to wrap around the sausages.
  3. Wrap each cocktail sausage with the pastry strips, leaving small gaps to resemble mummy bandages. Place wrapped sausages on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Brush each mummy dog with beaten egg for a golden sheen.
  5. Place two black sesame seeds or tiny mustard dots near the top of each mummy dog for eyes.
  6. Bake the mummy dogs for 15-18 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  7. While the mummy dogs bake, lay out the tortilla chips on your serving board and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously on each chip.
  8. Melt the cheese under the broiler or in the oven for 2-3 minutes until bubbly, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  9. Place a slice of black olive on each melted cheese chip to create the hatband detail.
  10. Arrange the mummy dogs, witch hats, and fresh veggies on a serving platter. Add small bowls of salsa and guacamole for dipping.
  11. Scatter nuts or pickles if desired and add Halloween-themed decorations for flair.
  12. Serve immediately to enjoy the mummy dogs warm and witch hats melty.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold while working to prevent stickiness. Do not wrap sausages too tightly to allow pastry to puff. Use egg wash for a golden finish. Broil witch hats carefully to avoid burning cheese. Multitask by preparing toppings while mummy dogs bake. For gluten-free, use gluten-free puff pastry and corn tortilla chips. For dairy-free, use dairy-free cheese and vegan sausages. Serve witch hats soon after melting cheese to keep chips crispy.
