Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz / 226 g) refrigerated crescent roll dough (Pillsbury Original preferred)
  • 8 hot dogs (regular or beef, Hebrew National recommended)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) prepared chili (homemade or store-bought; mild or spicy)
  • 1 ½ cups (170 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese (freshly shredded)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup (120 g) mayonnaise (Duke’s or Hellmann’s recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough and gently separate it into triangles along the perforations. Press seams together gently to prevent gaps.
  3. Lay the crescent triangles in a large circle on the baking sheet, points facing inward, creating a ring shape with a small hole in the center (8-10 inches diameter).
  4. Place one hot dog at the wide end of each crescent triangle. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of chili over the hot dog, then sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of shredded cheddar cheese per dog.
  5. Roll each crescent triangle around the hot dog, tucking the edges under the ring to seal tightly.
  6. Brush the entire ring with melted butter to help brown the crust and add flavor.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed, and the cheese is melted.
  8. Meanwhile, prepare the mustard dip by whisking together mayonnaise, yellow mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
  9. Remove the ring from the oven and let it rest for 3-5 minutes to allow the cheese to set.
  10. Slice the ring into 8 wedges and serve warm with the mustard dip on the side.

Notes

If chili is too liquidy, drain excess liquid before spooning to prevent soggy dough. Use freshly shredded cheddar cheese for best melting. Press seams firmly to prevent leaks. Let the ring rest after baking for cleaner slicing. Crescent dough can be replaced with gluten-free puff pastry for gluten-free version. Vegetarian versions can use meatless sausages and vegetarian chili. The ring can also be baked in an air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 12-15 minutes.
