A fun and festive Halloween appetizer featuring a creamy black bean taco dip topped with crescent roll dough strips to look like a mummy. It’s quick, easy, and a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican blend cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1/2 cup canned corn, drained (optional)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • Candy eyes
  • Optional: a few drops of black food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place your pie dish on a baking sheet for easy handling.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Use your hand mixer or a sturdy spatula to blend until it’s completely smooth.
  3. Add the taco seasoning, salsa, drained black beans, and drained corn (if using). Stir everything together until well combined.
  4. Fold in 1/2 cup of the shredded Mexican blend cheese. Reserve the other half for the top.
  5. Spread the dip mixture evenly into your prepared pie dish. Use a spatula to smooth the top.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese over the top of the dip.
  7. Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it. Do not separate the triangles. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide.
  8. Lay the dough strips across the dip in a crisscross pattern, like wrapping a mummy. Leave a small gap in the center for the face.
  9. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and the crescent strips are golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Press two candy eyes gently into the gap in the center.
  11. Serve warm with tortilla chips, crackers, or veggie sticks.

Notes

If the dough strips brown too fast, tent a piece of foil loosely over the top for the last 5 minutes. For make-ahead, prepare the dip base without dough strips up to 24 hours in advance; add strips just before baking. Do not overmix cream cheese to avoid a runny dip.
