Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Set out pretzel rods, slivered almonds, and any decorations.
  2. Melt the candy coating: Place green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring between each interval, until smooth (about 2-3 minutes total). Add coconut oil or shortening when candy is halfway melted and stir until smooth.
  3. Test the consistency: Dip a clean spoon into the melted candy; it should flow smoothly off the spoon. If too thick, add another teaspoon of coconut oil; if too thin, let cool while stirring.
  4. Dip the pretzel rods: Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip into melted candy, rotating to coat evenly. Leave about 1 inch uncoated at the top. Lift out and let excess drip back into the bowl.
  5. Create knuckle lines: Immediately place coated pretzel on parchment. While candy is still wet, use a toothpick to gently press three horizontal lines across the middle of the coated section, spaced about 1/2 inch apart.
  6. Add the fingernail: Press a slivered almond gently into the tip of the coated pretzel at a slight upward angle, extending past the end. Use a toothpick to adjust if needed.
